ABOUT FLUTING WITH FRIENDS
"It was an irresistible chance to connect with other players and hear other people playing the flute - a rare occurrence right now! As a beginner it was a good way to gain more awareness of all sorts of aspects of flute playing. And there was practical 'take away' whatever your level of playing - for example I'll be trying out the 'painter's approach' to a piece, building up the layers from the basics. I like the inclusive approach and supportive vibe."
4 faculty members integrating flute technique, Alexander Technique, and Dalcroze Eurythmics:
A 90-minute class focusing on one flute topic.
4 sets of exercises given each class.
Q&A session to answer all your questions.
Handouts and zoom recordings sent to all participants after the class.
Feedback on submitted recordings (video/audio) during class
Special guests: Lorna McGhee, Dr Gabriella Minnes Brandes, Sharon Sparrow & Katy Wherry.

"I like the format and the topics chosen. Great to be given the opportunity to tap into the experience and philosophy of four wonderful musicians and teachers to help us with all aspects of flute playing. What a team! The presentations make you feel that you are part of a community. I loved the last session on finger technique that let us participate and try out the exercises right there and then. The handouts are great to include in daily practice. Thanks, Rod, for the little practice videos - very helpful. Looking forward to the next fluting with friends!
Excellent session! Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and insights and for all your feedback. There was so much information that I was glad to be able to go back to the video and take time to absorb it all better. Big "Aha" moment for me that you could hear my tension. I need to go back to posture and "the story"." (Verena, Canada)
"Thank you for the session on Monday. You established a supportive environment and I found the exercises very helpful. It was also effective to have four contrasting concepts delivered by different presenters in 15 minute bite-sized mini lessons. This made it more memorable and left me with plenty of ideas to explore further. The handouts were also helpful." (Rachel, UK)
"I loved all the valuable info---was great to hear from so many wonderful teachers. I loved too that the class was running late because of questions, but everyone was willing to stay longer." (Arlene, Canada)
"Apart from the very congenial atmosphere, I liked the way the question of flexibility was approached in four different ways. It adds more flexibility to the topic, and it's so interesting to see how four people present their various exercises. I also appreciated receiving all the materials afterwards." (Kate, Italy)
"I liked the "friendliness"; the widely different approaches; the excellent resources that were shared with us. The fact that it was short, focused and intense, but in a relaxed sort of way..The feedback on all the recordings was really helpful and I was especially grateful for your feedback on my performance. ." (Hazel, UK)
"I enjoyed the presentations: each one dealing with a different aspect of flute playing and touching so many areas that we all need to be mindful of. Rod's whistle tones- this week I finally got it: I was blowing too hard! Paul's posture and breathing - that tension in the shoulders that keeps creeping in. Q&A - a feeling that we were together." (Verena, Canada)
"I liked the variety of new ideas and exercises to work on." (Charmaine, Canada)
